Work begins on Willingdon Linear Park

  1. I still think that not adding a transit/bus lane to the road is a mistake.

    1. The original plan was to have an HOV lane to Hastings put in before the City decided to make a linear park. There isn't enough room for both on this stretch. Either a linear park or an HOV lane.

    2. I believe it is not a mistake. Most of the congestion on the route is from Deer Lake Parkway to Lougheed/Gravely. There is already an HOV lane for buses on most of the route in this area. The route from Lougheed to Hastings is not really incredibly congested during rush hour, so an HOV lane would be unnecessary. If a lane was added it would make the route from Brentlawn to Hastings almost unwalkable. Lastly, a pedestrian link between the Heights and Brentwood was missing. This is a far better, and safer, option than increasing bus times by, at most, five minutes or so.

  2. The city produced a video about the park, but it does not seem to have been disseminated widely. I thought you might be interested.
